Noreda “Dede” Rae Mauland Ponder Harris

Noreda “Dede” Rae Mauland Ponder Harris was born August 3, 1937 passed away April 24. She was the third child born to Jonas and Grace Mauland. She was raised on the ranch on Big Timber Creek in Big Timber. Dede enjoyed life on the ranch — spending summers swimming in the creek, milking cows and feeding the bum lambs. She was a leader in 4-H. She spent eight years at Rapstad School, a one room school house.

Dede graduated from Sweet Grass County High School. She attended Eastern Montana College and the University of Montana. She married DeWitt Ponder November 20, 1960. They moved to California for several years before moving back to Billings. DeWitt passed away May 21, 1991.

Dede met Gary “Red” Harris and married him December 18, 1993. She joined Red in Lovell, Wyoming. She worked at the Bank of Lovell, later retiring from there. Red passed away May 19, 2014.

Dede had a wonderful sense of humor. She will also be remembered for her genuine interest in people and her ability to accept people unconditionally. She is survived by her brother Svend Mauland of Big Timber, sisters Wanda Lavold of Park City, Montana and Jadawega Horn of Browning, Montana, step-children Jay Harris, Linda Gallagher, Ron Harris and many nieces, nephews as well as life long friend Fern Griggs and many dear friends. Dede is in heaven now and her ashes will be interred in Big Timber.
