Never surrender: Montana Base of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc.
Julie Sanders, niece of the late Luke Logan, is on a mission to preserve the memory of Montanans who perished abroad submarines. She is in the process of identifying fallen Montanans so their names can be inscribed in a plaque on the soon-to-be-commissioned USS Montana.
She isn’t alone in this line of thinking. There is an entire organization dedicated to preserving the memory of submarine crews — the Montana Base of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI).
In a serendipitous coincidence, the group of 50-plus veterans convened in Big Timber for their bi-annual meeting May 6 and 7. Sanders told USSVI leadership of her plan, and they’ve agreed to help track down Montana’s fallen submariners.
