Pioneer Staff Reports

A former Big Timber prep has signed on to play basketball at the next level. Brett Finn, who completed two years at Dawson Community College, signed with Texas A&M International University last week.

Finn, a 6-foot guard, helped lead the Buccaneers in scoring last season with 18.1 points per game. His shooting at 45.6 percent from the 3-point arc and 90.2 percent from the charity strip not only led his team in the categories, but were first in the league in free-throw percentages and second in treys.

Finn was a first-team all-conference and first-team all-Region XIII in his latest season at Dawson.

“Finn loves basketball and has worked so hard to get where he is now,” said Dawson head coach Joe Peterson. “This is a great next step for him as he gets to play for a good coach at a good school and against high-level competition.”

The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils are an NCAA Division II program in Laredo, Texas. They vcompete in the Heartland Conference and have won five championships in the past nine years.

“I’m looking forward to being a Dustdevil because I love the way they do things in their program and am excited for the competitiveness and intensity at that level,” Finn said.
