Bradley John Bruce, 80, of Big Timber passed away on February 21, 2019 at the Billings Clinic.

Brad was born July 16, 1938 in Tarrytown, New York, the oldest son of John and June Bruce. After graduating from Washington Irving High School, Brad enlisted the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957 to 1960. He was an air traffic controller in South Carolina. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno and earned a Master’s in governmental finance at the University of California, Berkley. During graduate school, he worked for Bank of America main branch in Berkeley.

After college, he stayed on with the Bank of America, working in Sausalito, Vallejo, San Francisco and Sacramento. He was a B of A credit review officer based in the Philippines for 2 ½ years. He returned to the U.S. in 1974 and began his real estate lending career in Sacramento. In 1981 he joined Bank of Alex Brown as Real Estate Loan Administrator. In 1996, he supervised the construction and became manager of a 165-unit self-storage/ RV storage facility in West Sacramento. Bradley retired and moved to Montana in 2008. For the last 3 years Brad volunteered at the Community Thrift Shoppe every Saturday.

In 2010 Bradley and his brother, Dennis, turned the ” old Elgin place” into a Planned Unit Development with 7 lots. It was the first PUD in Sweet Grass Co.

In 1983, Brad suffered a heart attack and was one of the first candidates for angioplasty in Sacramento. He had a defibrillator/pace maker implanted in his chest in 1996. It went off 3 different times, shocking his heart back to life. Medical problems have plagued his later years. He had the beginning of Parkinson’s that affected his walking and eating. Throughout, he had an easygoing sense of humor.

Bradley was preceded in death by his brother Douglas and his sister Beverly. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy of Big Timber; his daughter Shannon Cowden(Michael) of Sacramento, CA and his son Robert (Amelia) of Huntington Beach. CA; grandchildren Jessica Alm and Danielle Alm of Sacramento, CA and Olivia Bruce of Laguna Beach, CA, 2 great grandsons; and brothers Dennis (Helen) of Big Timber and Brian (Marsha) of Marietta, GA.

At his request, cremation has taken place, no services are planned.
