Introduction
The Big Timber Pioneer is Sweet Grass County's exclusive news source with a distribution of approximately 1,500. A new edition is published every Thursday and available at several local businesses, as well as mail boxes throughout the nation.
The Pioneer was founded in 1887 after the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived in 1882, bringing an influx of sheepherders and ranchers to the area. The paper was purchased by Yellowstone Newspapers in 2008 and has since won five Montana Newspaper Association awards for general excelllence, three awards for public service journalism, one writing excellence award and one advertising excellence award, in addtion to a multitude indiviual staff member honors.
The Big Timber Pioneer staff strives to give our readers what they can't get anywhere else, providing hyper-local, accurate editorial and advertising content with integrity. We uphold our reputation as the trusted news authority for Sweet Grass County. Our staff is proud to cover and be a part of this community.
