Big Timber’s tournament run cut short
After a regular season sprinkled with buzzer-beater losses, the Big Timber boys basketball team hoped to shake off a series of bad beats and wreak some havoc in the playoffs.
But that will have to wait for another year after the Herders fell to Jefferson 48-41 in a District 5B tournament consolation game on Saturday at the Belgrade Special Events Center.
Jefferson’s Hayden Guisti scored 13 points to lead the Panthers, who fell to Three Forks 60-45 in the third-place game later Saturday night.
Big Timber’s Ethan Bullock finished with 13 points and six rebounds and Kell Schwers had seven points to lead the Herders who trailed Jefferson 25-19 at halftime, a six-point lead which Big Timber couldn’t overcome in the second half.
The Panthers outscored Big Timber 23-22 after the break.
On Thursday night, Three Forks’ Colter Miller and Corey Yecney scored 17 points apiece to help Wolves defeat the Herders 53-43 in the opening round of the district tournament.
Miller went 5-of-8 from the field and was 3-of-3 from three-point range for the Wolves who went on to take third-place at the tournament.
